Gum Disease
Periodontitis (Gum Disease) is characterized by inflammation of the tissue around the teeth, causing shrinkage of the gums and loosening of the teeth. Severity of the disease varies from mild to severe and symptoms may include redness or bleeding of the gums while brushing, gum swelling, loose teeth, and bad breath. Gum Disease can usually be detected during a routine clinical examination by inspecting the soft gum tissues with a probe and by evaluating a patient’s X-rays. Prevention is recommended by adopting proper daily oral hygiene measures like brushing, flossing and rinsing, and cessation of tobacco use.
